We have helped hobby musicians, professional musicians, and music teachers better understand how piano and music work.
As a student myself for many years, I was constantly frustrated over having teachers with little to no structure or plan for how I could best improve my playing skills and music understanding.
After graduating with my five-year education at the music conservatory, including pedagogy (university of Stavanger, Norway), I moved to Oslo and started a piano school. Eventually, the school grew, and we had several teachers and multiple instruments.
When we repeatedly heard from our students that they had taken lessons elsewhere, but now, for the first time, they got the clarity and developed their skills to new levels, we knew we were on to something special.
I developed new methods for learning to play the piano, especially jazz piano.
After years of trial and error, I perfected the methods, so now I can guarantee that the people who apply them will see a significant improvement in their music.
Another reason why I started PopJazzOnline was to give people an opportunity to get the experience of going to a real one-by-one piano teacher. So, instead of providing you with a massive library with all the tips and tricks in a random order, our courses will give you precisely what you would expect to get from a real one-by-one piano teacher.
Having a piano teacher includes three things:
- 1. Repetition of what you learned the last time
- 2. You learn something new that builds on the first
- 3 You go home to practice.
Adding a fourth step:
- Have you ever experienced having lessons with someone, and when you go home to practice, you only remember half or one-third of what your piano teacher told you to do?
- It is a common problem, so if you have experienced that, you're not alone.
- That's why we provide an extra step to help you out. In our courses, you can practice together with me. It is truly something different.
Most jazz piano teachers online are either YouTubers first or musicians first. If they also happen to sell a course, they usually throw it together on a weekend.

We designed the course to help hobby jazz pianists, teachers, and professionals understand and develop the skills to play jazz piano well. The goal is for everyone going through the course to get clarity about who they are as jazz pianists.
